Aspiring broadcasting professionals sometimes begin their careers in non-broadcasting positions such as reporters, camera operators or production assistance. Once they have demonstrated a capacity for sports announcing, they may work their way up to on-air sports broadcasting positions and eventually move on to higher paying positions that are available. Some broadcasters such as Michael Kay go on to host their own show about sports and the sporting world.
